New Strip Posted! [Feb. 6th, 2006|12:55 pm]
It is a tad late....yes, well, you see, so much going on this weekend...besides the Super Bowl...I had to paint (YIKES! Painting by hand is my Kryptonite) a sign for my son's booth at his school's carnival...it still isn't done yet, but today's strip is!

For those of you who were along for the ride in 2003-2005, I am still adjusting the strip down to a size where it would appear in the newspaper so I can get a feel if I am drawing it and still have it recognizable when reduced. Bear with me until I get it down to a science.

Sneaky sneaky me. If any of you have noticed a difference between the line quality from the 2003-2005 to the new ones being produced in 2006, then bravo! Another bane of my existence has been inking. Getting the line to look as I want it too from pencils to ink has always been a pain in my kiester. I feel I can get much more expressive line weights with pencils than I can tracing it over with ink. So, I have been experimenting with pencil weights...HB, 2B, etc. then after scanning it into photoshop, playing with the levels to make them stand out nice and dark...like ink, but only it's not;)

Thar be a comic posted! [Feb. 2nd, 2006|09:23 am]
Aargh! Thar be a comic posted....had to fiddle with the sizing and fonts to get it both on the page and readable...sizing also had to be small enough but still able to tell what is going on. This will be good practice for drawing to scale and scalability should I ever be able to crack the market and get it published other than the web. Would still like a good clean font to use that looks cartoony. Heck, perhaps my experiments with Fontographer will finally pay off one day and I produce a clean useable font of my own handwriting!

"I see people creating their own fonts all of the time, how hard could it be," I ask myself? So I write my alphabet and specialised characters, scan it into photoshop, c&p into fontographer, produce the font and it looks like, well, *crap*.

Not going to promise anything, but.....and it is a big but...but I think that is genetics....I am going to try for a minimum of a weekly return to the strip, a maximum of monday wednesday friday strips. Keep your fingers crossed too.

Oh and on the Unfit artist hire front, I had 12 users comment in the blog over at dilbertblog.typepad.com that they thought my submissions were one of the top 10 or in some cases top 3 or in other cases, the top one. Keep your other fingers crossed on that one.

Another Day, Another Blog Entry [Feb. 1st, 2006|08:48 am]
Hey, another entry....doing some spiffifying...is that a word?...it is now...on the site, as I get more time, I will spiff it up even more until it is just a mangled mass of neon blinding the visitors.

Oh, if anyone is reading this, hey, I entered a new artist search for a comic strip looking for a new artist...Unfit....check it out at dilbertblog.typepad.com, go to page 10 and scroll down to entry #50...there you will see, in all its glory, my typo for impossible. Serves me right for rushing through it...real life be damned....lol....

okay, let's see if I can put out an update of my strip soon.....tah!
